Please let me know what in the world I need to do to finally
log in & start using OpenOffice.
You do not need to register anything to use OpenOffice. Just download
it for free from www.openoffice.org. During the installation, you'll be
asked if you want to register, but that's optional.

Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org>
Hi James
The login in the upper right corner of the OpenOffice.org homepage is
primarily for people wanting to use bug reports, etc.
After creating a login, I believe you should have received a
confirmation email. Did this arrive and did you respond to it. Or did a
spam filter catch it?
To download just go to http://download.openoffice.org/ Note that you can
choose other platforms and languages other than that selected by your
browser settings.
