I tried the hostkarma lists, scored very low, when Marc was touting it to exim-users. The exim list was generally of the opinion that Marc's listing criteria didn't necessarily indicate a spam source.

Having tested it, I'd agree with that assessment. I got a lot of hits from it, but there were lots of obvious problems - whitelisted hosts that were on several reputable blacklists, blacklisted hosts on reputable whitelists, mail from whitelisted hosts that also hit URIBL and message digests, lots of false positives, and, my personal favorite, plenty of hosts that were simultaneously white- and blacklisted.

It might, as Rob McEwen suggested, have improved noticeably since then - I think the lists were pretty young at the time. However, the exim-users discussion of Marc's listing criteria and the results of my testing means I'm not inclined to try it again.
