I use
<Valve
className="org.apache.catalina.valves.AccessLogValve"
directory="logs" prefix="unity_access."
suffix=".log" pattern="%h %v %t %s %b %D %{RUNNING}c %r"/>
The "AccessLogValve" must be used and it is the %D spec that show
milliseconds.
