If you do software development for a living (as opposed to a hobby), one thing to consider is what tools are used at prospective employers. I work at a large (40,000+) company where Eclipse is the standard tool. Partly because it's open source (read "free," no budget impact) & has such a large support community. Plus it meets all our needs.
