I watched the last Olympics ladies marathon on TV and saw Paula Radcliffe
run as far as a huge sign with "36" on it.  She stopped, then started
running again.  After a hundred paces of so she withdrew (she had been
suffering from a stomach upset and should not have been running in the first
place).  The following day the British press were divided as to whether she
had run 21 miles or 22 miles - not one mentioned 36km (which is what
everybody who watched TV saw).
