Funny....I choose when fuel prices rise to get a Range
Rover. :) $500 I couldn't resist. Makes a perfect tow vehicle
(for picking up stray Alfa Romeos) and picking up mulch, and going to
the dump, etc..etc...
Lots of good deals out there right now on these vehicles.

That article is ridiculous. YES, the family moving to a station
wagon *saved* more total fuel than the couple moving to a hybrid,
but the family is still burning 300 more gallons per year than the
couple. So while I'm absolutely in favor of getting rid of wasteful
SUVs, it's not just about how much fuel you save, but how much you still *use*.
This is like saying, "Look, I'm still being extremely wasteful, but
only HALF as wasteful as I used to be! Applaud me and my efforts,
I'm saving the planet!"
25 mpg is nothing to write home about, our CAFE standards have been
over 25 mpg since 1981! We all took a gigantic step backward with
the rise of the SUV culture, and only now, with oil prices shooting
through the roof, are we starting to get away from that.

CNN recently had an article urging people to "think backwards"
about fuel economy. If we are going to go to the trouble of
changing people's thinking, why not just change it to L/ 100 km and
be done with it?
