Adding to the testimonials, I had no trouble suspending my laptop (IBM Thinkpad T20) by hitting the suspend button with Mandrake 8.2 stock kernel. No with Mandrake 9.0 it totally freezes upon resuming from suspend about every 5th time. It helps if I switch to a console first (ctrl-alt-f1) before suspending, but I still have problems. I have to manually do a service alsa restart every time too if I want my sound back. I've found the scripts that are supposed to do this automatically on resume (in /etc/sysconfig/apm-scripts/) and I think I can see why they don't work. I could probably fix them myself... Your ethernet card problem might be in one of these scripts. One of these days I'll get around to fixing my script problems and while I'm at it I'll try compiling my own kernel like these other guys have said and see if that helps.
