It does. It comes in 5 flavors: nautilus, konqueror, xftree, kdirstat, and mc.

But seriously, sometimes people ask me if the Linux command line is like DOS. I generally respond, "The Linux command line is like DOS on steroids". It really is. So much so, in fact, that Micros~1 has decided to revamp their command-line and scriptability to compete. Did you know that it impossible to directly[1] reboot a Windows machine from the command line? The fact that I can do anything with my Linux box without a GUI is very comforting to me. Maintaining Linux boxes is great too. A few months back, we needed to upgrade a piece of software on 140 Linux lab machines. I just wrote one script and had it execute on all of them. The fact that I didn't need to fire up a GUI and click through the installer 140 times saved us hours if not days of work. The fact that I can log into my home Linux desktop from anywhere in the world to do a system update is comforting too. I am a big fan of GUIs. I try to do as much work as I can in them. They used to be the only thing I knew. But now, I seem to gravitate toward the command line. I just get stuff done so much faster.

Anyway, to culminate, here is my list of favorite Linux CLI (command line interface) apps:

scp
ssh
ogg123
pine
iptraf
ncftp
and of course, bash

--Dave

[1] You can do it by rejoining a Windows box to its domain, which forces a reboot.
