I've tried not to get involved in this mess, however, my view might be one
valued by those wrapped up in this debate. Why might it be?

Well, LESS that one year ago I installed my first NON-M.S. O.S. (RedHat
7.3). Before that I had heard very little about Linux or any other UNIXish
OS. I was what more that 50% of your membership will be in two years -
first time, wet behind the ears Linux users. To be honest I didn't know
that Linux and UNIX had much in common (sure they both sounded funny). When
I did hear UNIX I thought of something "old." I didn't know what it was - I
just had that thought placed in my head somewhere along the line. But I
started to see Linux popping up in Google searches and in the news and so I
thought "ahhh, this is something new."

I had to be TOLD that if I wanted to learn about Linux I should seek out the
BYU UNIX USERS GROUP. Sure I feel stupid revealing these things about
myself, but they are true. Currently, I spend TONS of time explaining the
simplest things that you guys (most of you) take for granted as things that
are just KNOWN about the options when it comes to OSs.

So yes, I like adding Linux to the mix because that is what the majority of
people are hearing about. Not once have I had a friend see the screen of my
laptop and ask "hey, is that some sort of BSD your running?" It's Linux
that is stealing the show.

On the other hand I (now having learned a thing of two) think that the group
could and should support the use of all UNIXish OSs. It seems to me that
you can (and should) have it both ways. That is why I like Dave's
suggestion:

> Or even BLUE, the BYU Linux & UNIX Exchange.

I like it better that the following because it doesn't require a
parenthetical phrase explaining the pronunciation.

> >Not that I am advocating a name change, but why not BLUU? (pronounce
> >Blue) BYU Linux/Unix Users. The 'club/group/consortium/whatever' is
> >implied.

My 2 cents - and I promise my only two!
