I had absolutely no idea they were already implementing this. I
bought a new VCR and brought it home, only to discover that I can no
longer watch DVDs! The source of the problem: copy protection. I
called the VCR company and they kindly informed me that FCC regulation
???? now requires recording media to purposely cause the image to go
haywire to prevent you from copying copyrighted material. The solution:
"Plug the DVD player directly into your TV" they say.
Ok, so I should have seen this coming, but I didn't. I feel like I
am being forced to buy the Windows palladium or something (which I vow
to NEVER be a part of). Here are my issues: (does UUG agree?)
1. Now I can't watch DVDs because it so happens that I don't have
component connectors on my TV, only cable. The VCR did the converting
for me.
2. What about a valid backup copy? Aren't I allowed to have a legal
backup copy of any digital media?
Anyway, this really sucks...
