Apparently you didn't get the memo. Jack Valenti, the president of the
MPAA, responded to this concern by pointing out that digital is
forever. Therefore, there is no need to make a backup of your digital
movies:

Besides, copying means that you are a pirate. Copying means that you
are a bad person. Copying means that you will go to jail. If, by some
odd chance, something bad happens to your original media, you can just
go to Walmart and buy another copy. You see? It's simple! So there is
really no need to make a backup.
