I think he was probably referring to the fact that BYU's CS department is not accredited.

On another note, I may stir up a hornet's nest, but I just spent the last
15
minutes listening to a UVSC student tell me that the UVSC computer science
department is more advanced and harder than BYU's. I personally tend to
disagree, since I've never heard of a UVSC class that is hard, but maybe I
need to get out more. I also think this kid I was talking to was off his
rocker, since he claimed that BYU didn't have a CS department. Funny, I
wonder whom I got my degree from? Anyway, what does everybody think? BYU
vs
UVSC

Heh, I think UVSC has a required class for all curricula that teaches their
students that all their programs are harder/better than BYU programs. I
don't mind them thinking so because they need the esteem boost.

One thing about BYU is it's wide-spread reputation. In my out-side-of-utah
experiences, recruiter/employer reaction is usually "wow" when finding out
that I attended BYU, it is highly respected. There are also other
assumptions that come along with it. For one interview that I sat down to,
the recruiter started out, "I was so excited this morning because I knew I
was going to interview a spanish speaking Mormon." Heh.
