Have you checked the cups logs?  (/var/log/cups/* or something similar) 
You can even step up the debug level in the cups server, so you get more
output to the log file.  This is done in the cupsd.conf file
(/etc/cups/cupsd.conf).  When I've encountered problems with cups, this
has helped greatly.  See where that takes you.
