Don't forget about "GIF". Those who were around when it first came out
(remember cshow.exe for DOS?) know that it is pronounced "JIF" as in
peanut butter.
It saddens me that the majority of people have moved to pronouncing
it with a hard G. I guess you cannot invent something and tell people
how to pronounce your acronym because they will pronounce it any way
they want.
And the negative connotation for a word that was meant for all of us
"computer enthusiasts". So of course I am proud to be a hacker, I just
wish the world knew its real definition.
P.S. One of the main reassons I like using PNG format is so that I
don't have to hear people pronounce GIF wrong. Most people believe me
when I tell them PNG is pronounced "PING".
