I've been looking at building a myth box (see http://www.mythtv.org/)
and since I'm planning on using an older box I've been looking at
cards with hardware encoding to take some of the load of the
processor. I was considering purchasing a Hauppauge 250 (about $130)
but then I came across a fellow on ebay with some AVerMedia M179
cards for only $49
(see
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/archive/MythTV_C2/Users_F11/Cheap_MPEG_c
ards_P89011/ ).

Anyway, sounds like the card should be fully supported under Linux
very soon if not already - the company that produces them seems very
friendly to open source. I'm going to pick up a couple at this price
(picture in picture :) )and wanted to see if anyone wanted to go in
with me - with 5 the seller will ship for free.
