Hauppauge is great! I've got a WinTV PVR250. It can encode a video signal at up to 12mbit MPEG2 straight to disk without a hiccup and it looks great. That is, of course, overkill for a typical PVR but for converting home movies to DVD it's awesome. A fast hard drive is highly recommended for this. ;-)
I also have several ATI AIW cards (Rage 128, Radeon 7500 and 9000) but unfortunately MythTV doesn't support the ATI cards. Don't remember the specifics of it. The nice thing about the ATI cards though, is that it just uses your AGP slot, not an AGP slot and a PCI slot as a setup with the Hauppauge card requires.
