Though I could be wrong, I highly doubt that Comcast's SMTP server requires
authentication -that would make tech support problems multiply enormously;
and it counters my own experience.  They just make sure that you are
connecting from within their network.  Although it may be possible to
authenticate to their SMTP server from outside their network to send mail.

Most likely, you have a setting telling Postfix that it /needs/ to
authenticate.  What that setting is, or what you need to change it to, I
don't know.
