Macs keep looking nicer and nicer to me, and I keep wanting to believe
that the cost is nearly the same, but when it comes right down to it, I
can get a computer ordering parts from mwave.com that's equivalent or
better to your $800 Mac for around $400. I really do want to pay that
extra cash for a Mac, but I just don't have it to pay.

Even looking at laptops recently, I keep wanting to convince myself that
Mac laptops are just as cheap as similar PC laptops--and yet I still keep
finding these cheap laptops that are similar in functionality, at least as
far as what I'm doing is concerned, for hundreds of dollars less.

Now, to try to keep this from becoming a "macs are expensive no they
aren't" rantish thread ;-) ... I do have a question about laptops.
Although I probably won't be getting one in the _near_ future, I keep
looking for laptops and was wondering if anyone has suggestions on a
laptop that is (a) very small and (b) supports linux well (of course). I
keep drooling over these:

http://www.vaio.net/models/notebooks/tr/

to give you an example of what I'd _really_ like to have. Less than eleven
inches by eight inches--smaller than a sheet of paper--and yet still has a
decent-size screen and keyboard. I don't really need all the upper-level
features, however, and I'd prefer an eraser-type mouse, especially if it
meant a smaller form factor or larger keyboard.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Really cheap suggestions would be great
too, even if they don't have DVD players or CD writers or a built-in
webcam like the Vaio. Even if it's a fraction of the ram and processor
speed, the tiny size is really what I'm after.
