since you are a self-proclaimed newbie, i'd recommend fedora for the distro... 
i also recommend apache as the server, although i've had no experience with
resin...

for java, i think you just need to go to the sun.java.com website and download
the sdk...  for php, i know that you can install php on the fedora install
disks... for c++, you need to make sure you get gcc under development tools on
the fedora install disks... i unfortunately haven't worked at all with perl,
but i believe what you need for that is on the install disks as well...

and finally how I can
