Gross. This was the paid version? In that case I'd like to put forth
PeoplePC. They're a cheap dial-up ISP owned by Earthlink. I've never
used their service, but I have used Earthlink and know that there was
a way to get around using Earthlink's dialer, so I assume there should
be a way to do the same for PeoplePC.

I just installed NetZero for someone on a Mac just a few weeks ago and
you still have to use their custom dialer. It mucks up all the standard
dialing in the OS. It took me an hour to get it working since they moved
over from a different provider to NetZero. Everything that I remember
about he install was NetZero and not "United Online" so I must be real
recent.
PeoplePC is likewise messy. I have seen a couple of professors computers
with it, and it seemed like a cheaper version of AOL. Xmission
advertises it's dial up for $9 in the Daily Universe. I'm under the
impression that they don't want to take over your computer.
