Those of you with Macs with the Airport Extreme wireless card should
be happy to know that the card has out-of-the-box support in Ubuntu
Dapper Drake, due out in April!
This will also be great for those manning the booth when people ask if
their Mac will work with Linux -- we won't have to throw in a "except
your wireless card" anymore.
This is indeed good news. I take it this is using the new open-source
broadcom drivers (that were reverse-engineered)?
Despite this advancement, though, Linux is still not usable on my
powerbook 12". Thanks to blessed NVidia, there is no power management
at all. No sleep. Nothing but hibernate-to-disk which kind of removes
all the utility from my PB in the first place.
Even sadder, Apple has discontinued (thus far anyway) the 12" aluminum
laptop entirely; it doesn't appear there will be an aluminum MacBook Pro
12". There will definitely be a 12" intel apple laptop but probably the
white plastic version only. Makes me very sad.
