Whoah, there. The 12" powerbook is still being sold as of right now,
and until an official announcement about discontinuance is made, I
wouldn't count it out of the race. iBooks are rumored to get a quite
substantial ugrade soon (MacBook Lite?), and we don't know whether the
"white plastic" look will be changed or not. Wait until the hammer
falls for lamentations...
Yeah the PowerBook 12" is still being sold, but as far as we can tell
(you know the rumor sites ;) this is the end of the line.
I definitely agree we'll see some announcements soon regarding the intel
replacements for the iBook. Some people are saying it will just be
called the "MacBook" and the aluminum ones will be MacBook Pro (no sign
of a 17" here yet, but I'm sure it will come). The new iBooks
(whatever they will be called) are going to be sporting some widescreen
models (which I have no use for). I'd be very surprised to see the new
ibook line go aluminum; white plastic is most likely where its at (given
that the new MacBook Pro 15" is identical in appearance to the PowerBook
15").
I'm not counting anything out yet. But I'm not holding my breath either.
