Exactly, we don't have membership dues. (We do, however, use facilities provided by BYU tuition money. And by the way, departments get to run by different rules than student clubs.) The UUG is not, has never been, and never should be beholden to any company. This isn't some dude's personal site. It it a startup. It's a student club for students by students. We just happen to let alumni and local residents participate. If you want to spend time with a bunch of boring corporate sellouts, go hang out with the ACM. The UUG is (or at least used to be) a refuge for independent thinkers that wanted to hang out and talk tech. We shouldn't need pizza to bribe people into coming. We shouldn't need giant tech companies forcing us to listen to their sales pitches in exchange for a few lousy shirts. We should be a group of *nix loving geeks banding together to help each other learn. An ad on the site is anathema. A flash ad on the site is anathema. A flash ad for Windows jobs is anathema. -------------------- BYU Unix Users Group http://uug.byu.edu/ The opinions expressed in this message are the responsibility of their author.
