We talked about this in the meeting (and rsnapshot is mentioned in the slides). My perspective is that the script isn't really much longer than rsnapshot's config file, and I enjoy the flexibility of being able to change things easily. The point isn't which tool to pick but understanding how you can do a backup to a hard drive using rsync with hardlinks.
