Sorry to keep on writing stuff on this, but I'm finding more and more
interesting stuff.  It turns out that there's a "preview" package.  The
cool thing about preview is that it can automatically resize the page so
that you don't have to worry about overfull \hboxes, etc.  This seems
like a really good approach.
