This reminds me of a question I've had. How easy would it be to
generate an SVG or PNG file from a LaTeX file? What I would like to be
able to do is to create a diagram with PGF and export this as a
standalone image. I would like to be sure that this image did not take
up an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper. Ideally it would be able to figure
out the canvas dimensions automatically. I know that people do this
sometimes to export images of mathematical equations to put on a web
page, but I don't know how they actually do it.
