Macports uses the same Unix-like system as fink does. It's in /opt/ instead of /fink or /sw.
Macports aggravates me less often than fink did, but Macports does build a _lot_ of dependencies when you install something with it. The maintainer has taken the "I don't want to rely on Apple having versions of shared libraries that will play nice with my stuff, so we'll build it all" approach. Not a problem until you start getting low on disk space and see that there's almost 2GB of stuff installed as dependencies for boost and GTK/cairo, which were installed as dependencies for something you never run in a GUI (GTK/cairo not needed). -- Alex Esplin -------------------- BYU Unix Users Group http://uug.byu.edu/ The opinions expressed in this message are the responsibility of their author.
