JSON is my favorite. I'm not as much of a fan of YAML for one reason: There's more than one way to define the key:value|collection|map pairs. I vote against ambiguity. However, I also vote for legibility.
Since JSON is a subset of YAML I would never argue against YAML. I have a presentation on why XML is the worst possible data storage format ever not designed (design implies elegance). I'll try to get a flipcam and put it up on YouTube for you. Basically XML violates every principle of communication as found in nature as well as HCI and simplicity. Douglas Crockford also a lecture that explains quite a bit about why XML is a mistake. AJ ONeal XML is like violence. Anyone using it plays with others about as well as Microsoft. Flame on.
