*sigh* Nobody ever claimed that XML is simple or beautiful. (Well... maybe people that have experienced SGML would make that claim.) YAML might use fewer characters, but it doesn't deserve to be described as simple either. Instead, the argument was "any IT professional worth his salt should already know how to work with XML." and "It's a config file for goodness sake! Don't me learn yet another syntax, just let me move on with my life!" Remember, nobody recommended XML as a first choice.
