I used it extensively for data transport and configuration on past projects; I just know that there are other better things out there now. You've pointed out that we should use a language that an admin is familiar with: this is exactly why I'm performing research on the matter! Our internal syntax is undocumented and guaranteed to be new to anyone who doesn't work for our company; I'm trying to standardize on a standard that is simple, available, popular, and automatically parsed by modern, popular languages. -- Stephen M.
