It sounds like the problem was that the license sever 'lic-arcgis.gis.washington.edu' was offline. If you change it to 'lib-licensing.lib.washington.edu' in ArcGIS Administrator, you will have the same problem if/when the library license server goes offline.
I believe the correct answer would be to have both servers listed like this: 'lic-arcgis.gis.washington.edu;lib-licensing.lib.washington.edu' (no quotes). That way, if either server goes offline, your machine will fail over to the other server without you having to manage anything. Thanks everyone! After the 'Change' button for the license manager became enabled, I switched it to ' <http://lib-licensing.lib.washington.edu/> lib-licensing.lib.washington.edu' and now everything's up and running again. Hi, I'm running ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2 on Windows 7 and tried opening ArcMap, but it seems to have failed to initialize my license: "Could not connect to an ArcGIS license manager running on host "lic-arcgis.gis.washington.edu <http://lic-arcgis.gis.washington.edu> " Anyone else having this problem? I just checked my ArcGIS Administrator, and after selecting the Availability directory under Desktop, it popped up with: " "[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> " does not have a valid License Manager. Please enter a valid License Manager Server."
