As I recall there is a catch--when specifying license servers, all named servers need to be up at the time when the config is done, otherwise ArcGIS Administrator won't allow saving the config.

I believe the correct answer would be to have both servers listed like
this: 'lic-arcgis.gis.washington.edu;lib-licensing.lib.washington.edu'
(no quotes).

That way, if either server goes offline, your machine will fail over to
the other server without you having to manage anything.

Thanks everyone! After the 'Change' button for the license manager
became enabled, I switched it to 'lib-licensing.lib.washington.edu
<http://lib-licensing.lib.washington.edu/>' and now everything's up and
running again.

Cheers!

    Hey Luke,

    Matt sorted out this out-

Both the LIC and Storm servers appear to be expired/unable to
connect. By opening up ArcGIS Administrator as an admin and changing
    the Licence Manager to 'lib-licensing.lib.washington.edu
<http://lib-licensing.lib.washington.edu/>' all seems to be hunky-dory.

Are you on the UW network? It will not work off campus. Another

        Hi,

I'm running ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2 on Windows 7 and tried
opening ArcMap, but it seems to have failed to initialize my
license: "Could not connect to an ArcGIS license manager running
        on host

        "lic-arcgis.gis.washington.edu
        <http://lic-arcgis.gis.washington.edu>"

Anyone else having this problem? I just checked my ArcGIS
Administrator, and after selecting the Availability directory
under Desktop, it popped up with:

        " "[email protected]
        <mailto:[email protected]>" does not have a
valid License Manager. Please enter a valid License Manager Server."

Any help would be much appreciated,

        Richard
