Kelly that sounds like 2 different scenarios. One where
the internal combustion gets hotter due to the lean 
mixture - thus causing a hotter engine. The other where
the bike is running so rich the excess mixture combusts
in the pipes thus causing hotter pipes. Seems like
the bluing of the pipes would happen at the point where
the headpipe meets the block for scenario 1. i'd suppose
scenario 2 would cause bluing further down the body
of the pipes. just a guess.
