Comment #54 on issue 2599 by [email protected]: Implement "use asm"
http://code.google.com/p/v8/issues/detail?id=2599
@53, I understand that most stalls are caused by deopts and it makes
complete sense, I also understand that it will make the demo I posted
playable. Yet, is it really possible to have a situation where gameplay is
smooth from the beginning without any kind of stall?
The demo i posted runs absolutely smooth from the first frame in Firefox.
In chrome, it takes several seconds at the beginning with the scene frozen
gran gradually becomes more and more playable (and finally it works but has
small stalls).
So, besides the deopts, isn't the argument in favor of asm.js AOT 1) Faster
compilation since it's known subset 2) No stalls at all even at the
begining ?
I mean, letting aside the technical reasons, it seems like a win/win
situation for, as I don't think otherwise something with a slow CPU such as
a Chromebook could run asm.js binaries efficiently otherwise.
