Well, yes, if you're willing to invest time and/or money, it might be possible to develop a new networking model "socks proxy" for VBox. Under this mode all ICMP ping and non IP traffic will be dropped, but TCP+UDP forwarded to the proxy of your choice. Using an idea similar to VBox NAT could work. So, yes, development of this feature for VBox may be a possibility.
"tun2socks" is a big question.
