Samuel, you have to set your virtual machine, go to setting and set

1) CD-ROM: Select "Mount CD/DVD Drive" and choose "Host CD/DVD Drive /dev/cdrom"

2) USB: Plug your USB drive, then select "Enable USB Controller".  You
have to add your USB Drive.  Use the icon at the right (the one with a
USB cable connector and the "+" symbol).
