Frank, Thank you for the cogent response.    I will try changing 
kernels.   I do not know wny the APIC register fails.   I will look to 
see whether this may be a bios setup issue.   If in fact the program 
will not run, even after a  kernel change, you folks have given this 
issue a big effort, well beyond the call of duty.
