Guest Additions (D:) and as directories 32-bit and 64-bit but they
contain only readme files telling me that I have to run
VirtualBoxGuestAdditions-x86 with some added info but where I have to
run it is a mystery. Neither in Windows nor in Linux can the command
be found.
I'm sure they are not installed as the mousepointer integration is not
available.
Anybody any idea how to correct this?

Try install new package from virtualbox.org -> download
