I compiled every single package (it is easier for me to have an up to date version when compiling), including qmail (qmail is also distributed as source in debian), vpopmail, courier-imap and all tools related to qmail (daemontools, etc...) I never use apt for my e-mail server installations..... but this is me Good Luck !
