When we were up in Canada on Lake Wollenston last year.....her biggest Pike was 39 inches.....mine was 36. The biggest of the trip (we were with a group of 10 people), was 41 and a half. i gotta see your 43 inch Muskie. There's 4 shows (at least) on that same weekend we did the show up in Missouri for the Tri-Lakes Fly Fishers last April on the 18th. We stuck to our committment to do that, but then also got invited to do a show in Canada near Toronto, (for the Issac Walton League), on that same weekend. i think in 2010 we will go do the show in Canada. Gotta get these things done before we get any older. i'll be frickin' 60 in Feb. ............jeeze............. From: d...@positech.net To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Subject: [VFB] Re: conclave Date: Thu, 8 Oct 2009 02:08:14 -0500 Mark- Thanks for your kind remarks. Sorry I could not get to your house after the conclave dinner. I was called back to the resort and had to leave about noon on sat. I did not get to the conclave dinner. Only cost me 30 bucks but I hope the conclave can use it to some advantage. If this rain will slow up to a cloudy drizzle I am going to shake my new spey line at a few muskies. Will let you know how it turns out. I need to tie a couple of more mega divers at least 9 to 10 inches long. The regional Muskie Tournament last week end netted 43 muskies in 3 days and one day the wind was gusting to 40 mph. According to my buddies they could only troll in that wind and drag a 3 to 4 oz plug tough fishing to say the least. They all shake their heads at my fly fishing for those critters however when they see my 43 inch female musk on the wall they shut up. HMMMMM I wonder if I should host a fly fish only tourn? I wonder what Misa would say. Tight lines and as they say back under my rock. That and the fact that people simply don't wanna come from far off and only be given two sessions........you'd have to be nuts to spend money on gas, tolls, (possibly a baby-sitter), resturants, "the dinner", hotel, fishing license, silent and live auctions, raffles, etc., etc., etc..........and only tye two sessions.........again..............imho. The idea that the people won't come and support the Conclave unless all the tyers are nationally known is rediculas. .....whoever's commin' to Conclave is commin' to Conclave, because they feel the experience is gonna be worff it or it aint, PERIOD! Tyers/fly anglers aren't stupid........they "know" they can learn "somethin'" from every other tyer.....no matter who it is..........cept maybe some beginner.........but that level a tyer will not be in the seat. YOU, should be..........imho. From: d...@positech.net To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Subject: [VFB] Re: conclave Date: Thu, 8 Oct 2009 00:04:10 -0500 Mark- I have tied at 11 sowbugs,8 rendevous. and other meets and I can tie a few bugs now and then. I asked Reed and conclave if I could get on the tyers list for next year and he told me to submit 6 different flies and he would let me know if I was good enough to tie. Man was I insulted. Date: Mon, 5 Oct 2009 16:11:29 -0700 From: bighawk...@yahoo.com Subject: [VFB] Re: conclave To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Tony, tyer attendance is low because the tying chair is working off the same list every year. We have over 100 FFF members in our club and nobody got asked to tie. In fact no contact was made to our club to see if anybody was interested in tying nor has there ever been any contact of that sort. Last year the Junior Tyer of the Year was not invited. When you work off the same list every year, some folks die, some move away and some just stop showing up. It doesn't take a wizard to figure that you eventually have a sparse room. 2 years ago, when our club put on the Conclave, I convinced Toby to come back after he swore he would never tie again. I called Bear and asked him to please invite Toby and he told me to have him send in 6 flies for review and he'd get back to him. When I started coming to Sowbug, I barely knew how to tie. You told me I'd be just fine and I was. I haven't missed my session since. Since then we've been able to add 3 more folks from here to the roster. I could fix it but that ain't gonna happen. Saw alot of tying buddies it was good to see them. Good conclave but I feel they were short on tyers but the ones who tied did a good job.. I enjoyed the conclave. We had 8 Tri-Lakes members show up, We need to do better next time.It was good to see you up and going, keep well. Peggy and Mark sure were going strong as usual. I got to visit with a few other list members also.
