I'm interested in hackle tie in techniques. Do you wind the thread behind the hackle, back from the eye, wind the hackle and then run the thread through it? If you are speaking of a classic dry fly pattern, No. Do you tie in at the back of the hackle and wind the hackle up to the eye NO* and tie off at the eye without winding the thread through it? Yes.
