Yes it is. Can't fish in yours or another's wake. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jack Lehman To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, December 12, 2010 4:58 PM Subject: Re: [VFB] glossy heads
Is it still considered the 'San Juan Shuffle' if you stand 9 feet from your partner and alternate drifts at each other? For the record, I was very careful not to "shuffle" during the presentation. That was the first and last time I tried that technique. It was kind of awkward, and half of the time I would snag my waders, so it really wasn't fun fishing, especially since you couldn't move from your spot while fighting the fish without disturbing the others. Not only do fish use your legs as a current break, they feed on the bugs you kick loose. I've been told fish will also park in your shadow, but I've never had occur with me. But i have seen them 'parking' in the shade of logs, overhangs, and bridges. I feel better now about the time when I was fishing the Provo River without success during the spring run off. I was standing in heavy current, and noticed a dozen fish were stacked up right behind me, using me as a current break. I put on an extra split shot, flipped the fly ahead of me about 15 feet, then drifted it right past my leg, turning a little as it went past... and caught (and released) six of those fish before they figured out something was up! I did the following trick, it was just about one photo. After applying 2 or 3 coats and it was not nice enough, I mounted the fly in the vise for the photo, set everything in place, applied a fresh coat and while it was wet I took the photo. Is this fair?
