Hi John,
I just started using a Phoenix silk line this season and really like it. One
thing that I really noticed is that it cuts the wind much better than pvc
lines. It also creates less disturbance on the water. When I compare the tip
diameter of my silk DT5 line to my DT2 pvc line the silk line has a finer
tip diameter. This is a great advantage in my book. Yes they take a little
more care, but I find I can fish for 6+ hours before redressing the line and
by that time I need a break anyway. After fishing I just hang the line to
dry and redress it the next moring--5 to 10 min. I just love the way this
line casts and the improvement in the way I can present the fly. This past
weekend I was fishing Hot Creek in the Eastern Sierras and was doing quite
well fishing a size 26 dry fly with this line. In my limited experience with
the line I have to say I just love it--now I just have to save my pennies
(lots of them) for another one!--Gerry
