DAN,

Great tale!!! I'm still single (at 41 years young) because I feel I must locate that special one who enjoys this "Insanity" we call Flyfishing (and for me as well....Backpacking). Had one girlfriend who told me it was the choice of her or Fishing...I'm sure all of you know what choice i made then!!!! However things are looking great as I met a woman who is getting into Flyfishing & wants to go Backpacking with my humble self... We have gone fishing together afew times & next month she will be going backpacking/Flyfishing with me for a week... Things are looking up. Thanks again for a great story....

That's a long time to wait, Rene.

when I was in my late teens, I spent 4 months in Bremen. Had the time of my
life. I sent a postcard at least three times a week to my family (because
they helped fund the trip), and more importantly to my irlfriend back home
(mainly because I still wanted her to be my girlfriend when I got back, and
I realized even then that I wasn't much of a catch).

When I got home, was I ever in hot water! Four months in Germany, and not so
much as one single postcard! I protested mightily and, as usual, lost. Two
months later, postcards started arriving at a rate of about three per week
for about four months straight. Ha! Vindicated!

My girlfriend apologized for yelling at me, then promptly dumped me. The
problem (here's the flyfishing link) was that my idea of a hot date was
dragging her through the woods (and the poison ivy and the blackberry
brambles and the snakes and hornets, etc.) looking for a creek or lake that
the map said existed but which, in reality, may or may not be there at all.
(but if it did, hoo boy was I sure it was loaded to the gills with fish)

I later married the first woman I met who actually thought that was as much
fun as me.

Dan
