Thanks Deb & Chuck

I've been living at the Bass Pro/Outdoor World in Dania. They've been
really helpful. They offer free casting lessons; free knot tying lessons
and $10 tying lessons (and you get to keep the flies). I've sat through
a few of the classes and it's been really helpful. All of the employees
in the fly shop section are very knowledgeable and very helpful.
Biscayne's a bit far to drive. I haven't checked out the Ft. Lauderdale
fly shop yet. My wife is learning to dread the phrase "I just need to
swing by Outdoor World....."

I picked up their saltwater tying kit and I've really enjoyed it. The
tools & materials aren't the highest quality but it was enough to get me
into it. It has a video with Lefty and he shows the basics of how to use
the tools & materials. He also shows how to tie & fish 7 different
flies:
Deceiver (of course)
Clouser
Half n half
Bendback
Surf candy
Crazy Charlie
Lefty's y2k shrimp/critter

Most of them are pretty easy but they're a lot of fun. I've also picked
up some new patterns and some variations on these from the team at O.W.
I'm going to join a local club, South Florida Fly Fishing Club and that
should help out quite a bit as well.

Deb, thanks for the link; I've found that one and it's great. I also
appreciate the book recommendations. I've seen a bunch o' books but it's
hard to tell which one to get. I would assume Lefty's would be good but
you never know about the others (at least when you're a beginner).

Speaking of books; has anybody read "A Fly-Fisher's Guide to Saltwater
Naturals and Their Imitation" by George Roberts? It sounds like a great
book but I wanted to get some reviews.

Okay, I've rambled enough, thanks!

Ken
