Hi Chris, I'm in the same boat (the infant boat). I've always been a mosquito magnet. With that in mind I wonder why I chose to live in South Florida and kayak through mangrove swamps but that's another topic. I've tried a number of products and for a long while I'd endure them to a certain point. Then it was super high concentration Off (99% DEET). I was never comfortable using it but it worked. I tried Skin so soft once. For me, it was a complete joke (except for the 100+ bites I had). I was on a little island off of Ocracoke, NC (outer banks). The mosquitoes were beyond thick. Skin so soft just seemed to act as an appetizer.
Recently I've found a product which seems to work very well. I'm still testing it out (baby steps) but the results are very promising. It's called crocodile by dancing roots (http://www.dancingroots.com/). We took some family to see the gators at Billie Swamp Safari and left the Off at home. In a panic we bought this stuff (it was all they had). Thankfully it seemed to work. It's all natural and it smells nice (compared to other products). It came in two forms: a roll on and a paste. Both seem to work equally well. The roll on leaves your skin, well, oily; a little tricky with sunscreen. I still need to work up the courage for a true "torture" test. But I've used it in various instances where I was swarmed with no-see-ums & mosquitos. After putting it on I was left relatively alone (mangrove swamps, flats, canal banks). They're a New Hampshire company so anybody up there might want to check them out personally. I still have to go with a separate sunscreen and I'd like an all in one product. The crocodile has been great so far and I like the natural approach, but as I mentioned earlier; sunscreen can be tricky since it's oily. Allsport is supposed to be a good repellent/sunscreen. Has anybody used it? I've been curious about it. Ken (FL)
