Jimmy: I don't think I've seen Paul's, but I totally agree on Deb.. I asked
her the other week off list how she learned to tie that well in such a
relatively short period of time.. I also agree on Tony, and I haven't seen
Rick's woven mayfly, but If somebody can tie a Knit Pickin Mayfly any better
than the one Tony sent me, I'd love to see one. In my experience so far, for
catching fish, the Chili Pepper would be at the top of the list too..But,
Don O, (or Buggs or whoever tied em LOL) sent me some awesome flies too.
Even if they were tied with Ice Age materials, Chuck
Oh, and I don't wanna toot my own horn, but I had this hot pink chenille, I
think it came with my starter kit.. I tie on a gold beadhead, that hot pink
chenille body, a black tail from squirrels tail, and a hen or a rooster's
black hackle, on #12 and #14 hooks, and if we counted correctly, Myself and
my family, from early April till now, have caught and released (well, kept a
few to eat) 2,000 bluegills and shell crackers (and a handful of largemouth
bass) of that one type fly. I call it a "Pink Panfish Producer"

Subject: [VFB] Who is / are the gbest tyers on the VFB ?
I nominate Deb Duran and Paul Marriner as the best tyers of Atlantic Salmon
Flies. DonO for Mice and XLLLLL size flies, Rick Zieger - foam flies, Vlad
Markov - super realistic flies, Joyce Westphal - intricately designed
flies, Denny Conrad - woven mayflies, Bruce Whittle - woven stone flies,
Mark Delaney - Bass Bugs, Tony Spezio - Chili Peppers, all kinds. I could
go on and on !
I'm basing my selections on personal experience with the flies of the
tyers listed above, I have received flies from all of them, either
through regular fly swaps, Jody's Courage Swap, and Murf's Memorial Swap.
Looking at a photo of a fly in a magazine just ain't the same as seeing a
fly in person. I'm sure there are other great or greater tyers around, but
this is my take on the best of the VFB.
Cheers !
