Well... this isn't trout fishing but ... A friend of mine wasn't having any
luck a couple of weeks ago when we went fishing for striped bass. That was
the night I was using a spin rod because we had a fly fisher on each end of
the boat so I was fishing from the middle. I was catching them on a rubber
wiggle eye lure so I gave him one of my sili skin flies that is tied similar
to a crease fly in shape. He was still struggling until we put the boat in
reverse to back it out from the bank... finally he caught a striper while he
was dragging the line. He was a little disappointed that he caught it
trolling but he still caught a striper on a fly rod.
I'm not sure what made it different from his retrieve because both my other
friend and I were getting hits although I was the only one bringing them to
the boat up until that point so they weren't hooking up on my other friend
who was fly fishing either and he runs his own charter so he's very good
with a fly rod. Trolling made the difference that night.

Deb
