Hi all,
I'm new to v4l, using an Askey CPH061 (PAL-B/G) with bttv 0.7.27 on kernel
2.2.15. Anyway, I'm trying ways of capturing from the cards composite input (the
picture quality isn't great from the built in tuner my VCR's tuner produces a much
cleaner image I find). AVI files are too big, and my HD isn't really up to writing
AVI's out at any decent frame rate (next on the upgrade list), I have tried writing
Quicktimes from Broadcast2000 - but found it unstable, and not that great really -
frame rate wasn't great on my K6-II 500 (maybe I should compile it myself and try
again).

Anyway, that leaves me with 2 options (are there more ?), I can record simultaneous
video & audio streams in Mpeg (using fame & toolame) then multiplex - but to do that I
need to be able to trim the longer of the streams (i'd never get them started at
exactly the same time, but I could start one, then the other and stop at the same time
(well, close enough I imagine)) from the front to make the same length - is there a
tool or tools for this (to `measure' an mpeg stream and to `trim' an mpeg stream) ?

The second option is writing to real media files, using realproducer using the v4l
plugin for having a live feed. It actually works quite well, I was sufficiently
impressed, however it does have a problem, it only seems to record in B&W, and other
strange things happen, like sometimes there is no video recorded (so it seems), or it
is recorded off-center, or only a few lines at the top of the screen are recorded.
Its like it is not configuring the capture card correctly, is there some utility that
I should be using in conjunction with real producer (or other v4l software) to setup
the card before it uses it ?

Thanks for your help
