Yes, I've heard that some of the more expensive SVHS vcrs keep the time
base converter running no matter what format you're viewing and
outputting. Though they originally intended them to convert PAL videos
to NTSC, they convert NTSC to NTSC in order to clean up the signal. This
works really well if the TBC doesn't suck.
Of course, this doesn't help you if you don't have $500+ to drop on a
new VCR.
